Numerous activities related to Zheng
He have been and are being organized in various parts of the country.
Television Programs
Three television stations in China have put together or are planning
to make documentary TV programs on Admiral Zheng He and his voyages.
China Central TV (CCTV) will produce an eight-episode long program,
Nanjing TV will similarly have their own eight-episode documentary,
and Yunnan TV will produce a six-episode one.
In Hong Kong, Feng Huang Wei Shi TV has produced a TV series that
will feature the many sites following the route taken by Admiral Zheng
He’s fleet. It has already begun to be telecast in April 2005.
Movie Based on the book 1421: The Year China
Discovered the World
Mr. Frank Lee from Hong Kong wrote to inform us that the movie project
entitled ‘1421’ is being reviewed by two famous Hollywood directors.

In late March this year, Mr. Lee visited Singapore and attended a
press conference hosted by STB, where he presented the theme music
of 1421, written by his music composer/partner, Ian Parkinson. The
music, called “Setting Sail”, was played at the News at 11pm at the
Asia News Channel on Mar 23, 2005. For those interested in the music,
kindly contact Kaiiten Communications which is the PR agency responsible
for the publicity of the 1421 exhibition.
Exhibitions
1 June 2005: The National Historical Museum in Beijing
will hold the Zheng He Exhibition.
2 July 2005: Ministry of Transportation, China Marine
Department and the Shanghai Municipal Government will jointly put
on show in Shanghai the Zheng He’s Ocean Voyages Exhibition &
International Marine Expo.
Conferences/Gatherings:
1 July 2005: An international conference on 600th
anniversary of Zheng He’s maiden voyage will be held in the city of
Nanjing
2 July 2005: A national gathering commemorating 600th
anniversary of Zheng He’s maiden voyage will be held in Beijing
3 13-14 July 2005: Hong Kong University’s Department
of Chinese Studies, Hong Kong Historical Museum and Asia Pacific Institute
of Peking University will jointly hold an international conference
on 600th anniversary of Zheng He maiden voyage to West Seas.
Other Activities
During this year, many more activities are being organized as part
of the Zheng He anniversary celebrations. The following are three
such activities known to us.
1 China’s Maritime Department, Ministry of Education and several other
organizations will hold various competitions, lectures and summer
camps to promote the study of oceanography.
2 Fujian, Yunnan and Jiangshu Provinces will separately hold small-scale
conferences and other activities.
3 Publication of books devoted to the study of Zheng He.
